Sustainable Activities on Big Island Hawaii
When it comes to travel, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of visiting new places and experiencing new things. But what if we took a step back and considered how we could incorporate sustainable practices into our activities? That’s exactly what I did on my recent trip to Big Island Hawaii.
From hiking to snorkeling, there are many sustainable activities to enjoy on the Big Island. Here are some of my favorites:
- Hiking: The Big Island has some of the most beautiful hiking trails in the world. From lush rainforests to volcanic landscapes, there’s something for everyone. And by sticking to designated trails and practicing Leave No Trace principles, we can help preserve these natural wonders for future generations.
- Snorkeling: The coral reefs around the Big Island are teeming with marine life. Snorkeling is a great way to explore this underwater world while minimizing our impact. Just be sure to use reef-safe sunscreen and avoid touching or standing on the coral.
- Farmers’ markets: Visiting a local farmers’ market is a great way to support the local community and enjoy fresh, locally-sourced produce. From juicy pineapples to fragrant herbs, the bounty of the Big Island is on full display.
- Cultural performances: The Big Island has a rich history and culture that is worth exploring. Attending a traditional hula performance or music concert is a great way to learn about the local culture while supporting local artists.
By incorporating these sustainable activities into our travels, we can have an unforgettable trip to Big Island Hawaii while also making a positive impact on the local community and environment.
